The Justice in Government Project

The Justice in Government Project (JGP) started at American University’s School of Public Affairs with one goal: to improve the quality, efficiency, and fairness of government programs and policies that serve low-income people and communities, by including civil legal aid alongside other supportive services. Since 2017, through technical assistance and its online Toolkit, the JGP has helped state and local officials and their partners leverage civil legal aid to reach shared policy and program goals, increasing access to housing, health care, family stability, safety, employment, and many other basic necessities.

In June 2021, NLADA’s LegalAidResources site became the new home of the JGP Toolkit, which features a curated library of research briefs about civil legal aid, our Grants Matrix and funding FAQs, state examples, publications and resources, and additional tools related to civil legal aid.
