The VAWA full faith and credit provision provides that states, tribes, and territories must inforce qualifying protection orders. This specific initiative comes after the Office on Violence Against Women’s (OVW) Annual Tribal Consultation, where many tribes expressed concern about a lack of state enforcement of tribal protection orders.
Goals and Objectives
There are 229 federally recognized tribes in Alaska. Under this initiative, funds must be used to improve the enforcement of tribal protection orders in Alaska. Applications should propose training and technical assistance for state and local law enforcement, prosecutors, and court personnel and for tribal courts and communities on issuance and enforcement of protection orders.
